WELCOME TO OUR WEBPAGE

COCABO, R.L. is the first agricultural cooperative of Panama. Founded in 1952 with twenty associates the Cooperative now includes 1,500 members, most of whom cultivate premium quality organic cocoa. Approximately 2,000 families of small farmers are involved in this production process the majority of who are indigenous men and women who market their produce through the Cooperative. COCABO’s production system is based on the principles of fortifying members’ organic plantations that are oriented towards providing for the financial and material needs of our producers. As a result we have created a range of technical services that improve the quality of life of our members. COCABO is also certified to market organic produce; international certification is conducted by Eco-LOGICA & BIO-SUISSE. (click here to view our certifications).

For members, working in an organic production system provides fresh organic food for the home as well as a series of direct economic, environmental, social, and cultural benefits. The practice of ecological agriculture within our tropical forests considerably assists the mitigation of deforestation and erosion in our region. Socially speaking, we fortify local economies starting with the organic farming family, which is the nucleus of rural development. This stimulates savings, local markets, and provides food staples to premium quality markets where the services we provide are recognized.
